Jesus then told the disciples that they were going
to Bethany, not Jerusalem. "Our friend Lazarus
sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of
sleep" (vs 11).
The disciples, still innocent of what had happened
replied, "Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well."
It had become necessary for Jesus to tell them
that Lazarus was dead. The news startled them
and their response was silence, even Peter.
