While He was waiting for their return.
A woman came to the well to get water.
Because of the time of day that she was
there, He knew she was an outcast.

Jesus stopped her and asked her, "Give
me to drink". She recognized Him as a
Jew, and asked Him "How is it that thou
being a Jew, askest drink of me, which
am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews
have no dealings with the Samaritans."

Jesus said, "If thou knewest the gift of
God, and who it is that saith unto thee,
Give me to drink; thou wouldst have
asked of him, and he would have given
thee living water."

The woman was thinking of natural water
while He was speaking of the water of
everlasting life that quenched thirst forever.
