The world deserved judgment, but the judgment
was to fall on Jesus for everyone's sins.

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw
all men unto me" John 12:32. Here He was
fortelling His crucifixion, and how He would draw
Jew and Gentile, Greek and Roman all men to
Himself.
