Jesus looked upon the young man, loved him
and desired for him to be a disciple. But in
order for him to do that he first had to pass
the test which He had given to His other
disciples, so Jesus said:

"One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell
whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor,
and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and
come, take up the cross and follow me"
