Jesus said to this young ruler, "But if thou wilt
enter into life, keep the commandments"
(Matthew 19:17).

He answered Jesus, "All these have I kept from
my youth up." (Luke 18:21) No doubt he had
kept them to the letter. All godly Israelites did
But he know little about the spirit behind them
that Jesus had taught in the Sermon on the
Mount.
