Peter was a Galilean fisherman. He was married,
and his brother was apostle Andrew.
The Gospels show many elements of his
personality, his boldness but with fear, doubt, and
meekness. He was famous for being impetuous, a
tendency to speak first and think later. It caused
Jesus once to rebuke him saying: “Get thee behind
me Satan.”
He was prominent among the apostles. Peter
was always listed as the first of the Apostles.
and was a member of the inner circle of Jesus,
with James and John.
He is recorded more than any other disciple.
He was at Jesus’ side at the Transfiguration;
the raising of Jairus’ daughter, and at the
Garden of Gethsemane. When Jesus was
arrested, Peter cut off the right ear of a slave
of the high priest and then denied Christ three
times as the Lord predicted.
